The Speaker of Parliament, Nabih Berri, revealed that the next government may see the light of day in four or five days if the positive atmosphere continues to function as it is now.
Berri reiterated, upon receiving a delegation of students from Saint Joseph’s University, that the negotiations that Lebanon is conducting in Naqoura are exclusively aimed at establishing Lebanon’s rights to invest in all its wealth without increasing or decreasing.
Berri said: “It is not possible, neither soon nor far, to accept that the demarcation negotiations will lead to normalization with the Israeli enemy, with whom it is negotiating according to clear mechanisms that are the components of the April understanding and indirectly under the UN flag. “
He stressed that Lebanon cannot continue if politicians delve into their approaches to various speeches through sectarian and confessional criteria, noting that “the time has come for the Lebanese to belong to their country before they belong to their sect. Yes, the sects are a blessing but sectarianism is a curse. “
Berri expressed fear of reaching a stage where Sykes-Picot could be merciful to him, compared to the divisive scenarios envisioned for the region.
He considered that the responsibility to stop smuggling is the responsibility of the State and not of the citizen.
On the issue of reform, Berri noted that reforming and saving Lebanon’s finances is the mandatory approach to dealing with the electricity file, which incurred more than 62 percent of the treasury deficit.
The President of the Council expressed his optimism about the future of Lebanon, saying: “I am optimistic about the future of Lebanon because it is rich in humanitarian energy and has enormous oil wealth in its waters.”
He added: “I am sure of the enormous size of this wealth, but the important thing is that we do not despair and start the rescue process by fighting corruption and implementing what has not been implemented of the 54 reform laws approved by Parliament.”
