Then sources said that the kidnapper was one of the sons of Sheikh Fadala al-Kaabi, the Sheikh of the Albu Hammam tribes in Diyala governorate, and that the body exploded when his family went to pick it up, killing five of them, but the statement from the presidency of the Iraqi parliament and the governor of Diyala said that the kidnapped was Sheikh Fadalah himself.

A third source said that the abducted person was a pastor, and that the sheikh and his family had come to rescue the body that exploded on them.

But all sources agreed that the sheikh and his tribe were very influential in the governorate, and they participated in the fight against ISIS when it controlled parts of it, and believed that the operation was a retaliation against the organization.

Diyala Governor Muthanna Al-Tamimi said: “Takfiri gangs killed one of the sheikhs while he was in one of the agricultural areas in Al-Muqdadiya where ISIS rats were hiding, and then booby-trapped him, and after the body was found by his relatives, it exploded on them, killing and injuring a large number of them.

Earlier, the first deputy speaker of the Iraqi parliament, Hassan al-Kaabi, lamented “Sheikh Fadaleh” and five of the Banu Kaab who were killed by ISIS in Muqdadiya.

The statement by the vice president, who belongs to the same tribe as Sheikh, said: “Sheikh Al-Kaabi is one of the great sheikhs who fought against terrorism.”

Local sources told Al-Hurra that ISIS began to intensify its presence in this area of ​​Diyala governorate, taking advantage of the rugged terrain and dense agricultural cover.

The frequency of the organization’s attacks increased over the last month in this area, as the organization attributed the daily attacks to the city of Muqdadiya and its surroundings, using various weapons.
