Today marks the fourth anniversary of the death of the artist Melhem Barakat (1942-2016). On this occasion, the pages of social networks were invaded this morning, by late songs that spoke of the homeland, love and betrayal. Barakat, considered one of the most important Arab and Lebanese artists, passed away after suffering an incurable disease. He was known for his adherence to Lebanese song, his romantic songs, his distinctive style of songwriting, and his bold patriotic stances. The deceased was born in the city of Kfarshima into a middle-class family. He studied vocalization and oriental singing, and was considered one of the last artists to print the Lebanese song. He participated in the most important plays and stood in front of Al-Shahroura Sabah in the plays “Al-Funoon is crazy”, “Much sweetness” and “Sit Al-Kul”. The artist archive has more than 13 albums and hundreds of songs composed by the most important artists. In this context, the fans of the “musician”, as they call him, have recovered their patriotic songs, which are still played everywhere. Comments on social media linked the words of Barakat’s works to the difficult political situation that Lebanese are going through today, noting that Lebanon remains in their condition and that Barakat’s songs still describe the situation as if they were born today. . Among those songs, he attended “The Homeland Will Remain”, “Our Promise Your Land, O Our Country”, “My Country, and Where Do You Know Its Beauty” and “Oh My Silence, Oh My Punisher”.
