The “Strong Lebanon” bloc prepares a bill addressed to the Central Bank

The powerful Lebanese bloc held its regular meeting electronically (due to Corona’s measures), headed by Rep. Gebran Bassil.

The bloc emphasized the priority of reform, saving the financial and economic situation, and executing the reform program contained in the French initiative, as an initial part of the comprehensive reform program.

In its statement, the bloc highlighted the priority of quickly forming a government for this purpose. He remains fully committed to facilitating their birth, adhering to the unity of standards and their fairness, towards all the blocks and components.

The bloc positively awaits the results of the ongoing consultations between the President of the Republic and the designated Prime Minister, to determine how to address the issue of training, betting on the success of these consultations in compliance with the standards of the Charter and the Constitution, and the inauguration of ministers capable of implementing the reform program quickly, through their efficiency, integrity, effectiveness, experience and knowledge of the affairs of the State and its sectors. .

The group also discussed and is preparing a set of proposed laws. Most of them have been presented to Parliament. And the approval process continues in the committees, waiting for it to reach the General Assembly for approval. Among the most prominent is the amendment of the constitution in terms of establishing deadlines for the President of the Republic to carry out binding parliamentary consultations, and for the Prime Minister in charge of forming the government. As well as the law of transparency, the law of disclosure of accounts and assets for those who are in a public service, the law of bank secrecy and the law of financial governance.

The bloc affirmed its insistence on conducting a criminal audit of the BDL’s accounts as a starting point for the reform and anti-corruption process. Any non-compliance requires exposing the negligent, abstaining and obstructive, pursuing those responsible for the obstruction, and failing to provide the audit firm with the necessary information.

Likewise, the bloc intends to advance rapidly on a bill in this area.
