The powerful Lebanese bloc held its periodic meeting electronically headed by Representative Gebran Bassil, discussed the developments and issued the following statement:
1 – The bloc affirms the priority of the reform, saving the financial and economic situation, and executing the reform program contained in the French initiative, as an initial part of the comprehensive reform program.
The bloc emphasized the priority of forming a government quickly for this purpose and is still committed to the utmost in facilitating its birth and adhering to the unity of standards and its fairness towards all the blocs and components. The bloc positively awaits the results of the ongoing consultations between the President of the Republic and the designated Prime Minister to determine how to approach the issue of training, betting on the success of these consultations in respect of the standards of the Charter and the Constitution and the inauguration of ministers who are capable of rapidly implementing the reform program through their competence, integrity, effectiveness, experience and knowledge of the affairs of the State and its sectors.
2 – The bloc discussed a set of law proposals that it had drawn up and drafted, most of which were submitted to parliament and is following the path of approval in the commissions, waiting for them to reach the public body for approval, the most prominent of which is the reform of the constitution in terms of specifying the deadlines for the President of the Republic to carry out binding parliamentary consultations and the Prime Minister in charge of forming the government, as well as the Prime Minister in charge of forming the government. Transparency, the law of disclosure of accounts and properties for those in a public service, the law of bank secrecy and the law of financial governance.
– The bloc affirms its insistence on carrying out a criminal audit in the accounts of the Banque du Liban as a starting point for the reform and anti-corruption process, and its non-compliance requires exposing the negligent, abstentionists and obstructive, and prosecuting the responsible for the obstruction and failing to provide the audit firm with the necessary information. The bloc also intends to quickly advance a bill in this area.
