Get ready to cut prices starting this week!

The head of the Lebanese Food Importers Union, Hani Bohsali, assured the Lebanese that the union is paying special attention to the problem of the drop in the dollar exchange rate and its impact on the prices of imported food.

Bohsali revealed today in a statement that “the Union is currently working, in cooperation with all importers, in the study of the movement of the dollar exchange rate, up and down, in the parallel market to study the revaluation of products food imported from abroad “.

Bohsali indicated that there are two categories of imported food products:

The first: They are subsidized materials, that is, those that the Central Bank of Lebanon subsidizes and delivers dollars at the price of 3,900 pounds, and this category will not lower its prices, because the dollar exchange rate on the black market is still very over 3,900 pounds.

The second: unsupported materials, which are the targets of the price change process.

Bohsali expressed his great astonishment at the media pumping and the accusations directed at importers, merchants and supermarkets for not reducing prices, highlighting that this process does not occur with the click of a button, recalling that the increase in food prices in its different stages it took a long time.

He pointed out that the latest increase in imported food prices, which occurred about three months ago, came months after the dollar exchange rate reached record levels of 9,000 pounds, and the dollar exchange rate that was adopted at the time for food pricing is between 7,000 and 7,500 pounds, and this is documented with data. Issued by the Union of Food Importers.

Bohsali emphasized that the completion of the pricing process requires some timeframes, especially since what we are witnessing of rapid ups and downs and large margins of the dollar exchange rate complicates the process.

However, Bohsali reiterated that the price reduction is being seriously studied and that the new price will take place this week.

Bahsali noted that there are a lot of foreign foods that have been lost from the market, and there are many other materials that are in low demand, so their price is still at a low dollar exchange rate to encourage their purchase before the end. of your term or your depression.

Bahsali emphasized that “during the months of the harsh crisis, food importers were anxious to preserve Lebanese food security, and they spared no effort to ensure food at the best prices, and they would always fulfill their responsibilities.”
