The death of former MP Sid Akl, after a fight against the disease, at the age of 89.
Akl was born in Batroun, on November 5, 1933, and received his primary education at Al-Hikma school and his secondary education at Lissah in Beirut, and has had a diploma in commerce since 1955.
He worked in the field of free trade, assumed the agency of several companies in North Carolina in the United States of America, and worked in the field of tourism, through the “San Stefano Beach” project, in the sea in Batroun.
He was elected deputy representing the Batroun district in 1968 and re-elected by the North in the 1992, 1996 and 2000 rounds. He participated in the work of the Parliamentary Commissions and was a member of the Commissions: Money and Budget, Public Works, National Defense and Displaced Persons Affairs, and was also elected Secretary of the Board of the Council 1970-1971.
He represented parliament on various occasions, including the beatification of Saint Nemat Allah Al-Hardini in 1998 and the canonization of Saint Rafqa in 2000. He attended various parliamentary conferences in Amman in 1997 and Mauritania in 2001.
He was a member of the National Bloc Party until 1992 and, together with his fellow Bloc representatives, opposed the Cairo Accord in 1969 and later joined the “Northern Parliamentary Bloc”.
He is married to Ms. Nihad Gibran and they have two children: Khalil, Jesse, Karen, and Fransen.
He will celebrate his prayer for himself at 2 pm tomorrow, Monday, in the Cathedral of Saint Stephen – Batroun.
