France registers new Corona cases
On Saturday, France registered 45,422 new cases of coronavirus, representing the highest number of daily deaths.
According to a statement from the French Ministry of Health, the total number of people infected with Coronavirus has reached 1,069,368. And there were 137 new deaths, bringing the total deaths in France to 34,645.
On the other hand, the French National Assembly voted in first reading to extend the state of health emergency until February 16, in reference to an exceptional system that allows the executive power to impose restrictions in the face of the Covid-19 epidemic crisis.
The text, which was supported by 71 deputies, in exchange for the rejection of another 35, is expected to be transferred to the Senate on Wednesday, where it is expected to be finally adopted in early November. The government defended the text, while the opposition expressed concern about the dangers of “violating public liberties.”
The health emergency was approved again a week ago by decree, and Parliament had to vote to extend it for more than a month. This situation may increase if the situation in the country improves.
However, the horizon seems bleak as the death toll from the epidemic “will increase in the coming days and weeks, whatever we do,” in light of the active epidemiological trajectory, according to the Minister of Health, Olivier Ferrand.
The voted text indicates the possibility of imposing restrictions from February 16, until April 1, based on a transitional system. This time period includes provincial and district elections, if there is a possibility to organize them.
