Last night a demonstration took place in the Sudanese capital Khartoum to denounce the announcement by the transitional government of an agreement with Israel to normalize relations, while Iran said, commenting on the normalization declaration, that Sudan ignored the rights of the Palestinian people and paid the corresponding ransom. They had the United States remove their name from the terrorism list.
The Sudanese people who demonstrated last night in Khartoum chanted slogans denouncing normalization and affirming the Sudanese refusal to negotiate or reconcile with Israel. The protesters emphasized the support of the Sudanese people for the Palestinian cause.
The protest came after the leaders of the United States, Israel and Sudan issued a joint statement declaring that Israel and Sudan agree to normalize relations between them.
Some Sudanese political forces supported normalization between Khartoum and Tel Aviv, while other forces rejected it. The leader of the Forces of Freedom and Change (the civil party that participates in the ruling coalition) Al-Relief Suleiman described the decision as “courageous, because it ends the isolation of Sudan with all the countries of the world.”
This is a historic day for our people, who have suffered for 27 years under the list of state sponsors of terrorism. We thank President Trump for removing our country from this list.
With this decision, we hope that our country will move towards the paths of glory by building balanced relationships with the world for the Sudan’s sake of freedom, peace and justice.– Mohamed Hamdan Daglo (@GeneralDagllo) October 23, 2020
Welcome and rejected
The head of the delegation of the “Front of the Revolutionary Front”, Al-Tom Hajo, welcomed the normalization agreement with Israel and told Al-Jazeera that the majority of the Sudanese people support it, except for lack of ideology. He added that the normalization was related to the removal of Sudan from the US terrorism list, and looked forward to the exchange of visits soon.
On the other hand, other political parties rejected the decision to normalize normalization with Israel and saw that the transitional government of Abdullah Hamdok had made a decision that was not within its powers, and those forces described Israel as the usurping racist entity, and there is no justification for its recognition. Ibrahim Al-Amin, leader of the National Umma Party, which is one of the main components of the Forces for Freedom and Change, said that the decision of the Sudanese authorities to normalize relations with Israel came as a result of “ dictates and pressure on Khartoum ”, and that the Umma Party’s decision on this step would be to withdraw the confidence of the Hamdok government.
The National Consensus Forces group, one of the most prominent components of the Declaration of Freedom and Change, accused the transitional government of violating the constitutional document and breaking the principles of the “Sudan of the Three No”. The group said in a statement that the transitional government has given in to pressure to take positions that improve the chances of US President Donald Trump in the presidential election.
He renewed – in a statement – his support for the Palestinian people, in order to obtain all their legitimate rights, and called for the freezing of any steps towards normalization with Israel.
Earlier Friday, Sudan’s designated Foreign Minister Omar Qamar al-Din said the transitional government agreed to normalize relations with Israel, shortly after US President Donald Trump announced the matter, and Qamaruddin added that ratification of the agreement, until it enters into force, remains his responsibility. Legislative bodies of the country, in statements made by the official Sudanese news agency.
Should Sudan sign the standardization agreement, it will become the fifth Arab country to conclude a standardization agreement with Israel, after Egypt (1979), Jordan (1994), and the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain (2020).
The Triple Declaration
On Friday, Israel and Sudan agreed to normalize relations, coinciding with the announcement that US President Donald Trump signed a decree that removes Sudan from the list of countries that sponsor terrorism.
Senior US officials said President Trump concluded the deal in a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Sudan’s Sovereignty Council Chairman Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok.
The joint tripartite statement added that the leaders of Israel, the United States, and Sudan agreed to initiate economic and trade relations between Sudan and Israel, with an initial focus on agriculture, emphasizing that the United States will take steps to restore Sudan’s sovereign immunity and work with international partners to ease your debt burden.
American Foreign Policy magazine reported Thursday that the US administration refused to go ahead with an agreement to remove Sudan from the list of states sponsoring terrorism unless it recognizes Israel.

President Trump said Sudanese will be welcomed and other countries whose names will be released soon will join the list of printers with Israel, and the US president hoped Saudi Arabia would join soon.
The Iranian position
In external reactions, the Iranian Foreign Ministry commented on the Sudanese-Israeli normalization decision with a tweet in which it said: “If you ignore the crimes committed against the Palestinian people and pay the corresponding ransom, you will be removed from the list of countries sponsoring terrorism “.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry added that it is clear that “this American list is forged and fabricated, like the US war on terrorism.”
Hussein Amir Abd al-Lahian, adviser to the speaker of the Iranian parliament for international affairs, said that Sudan’s normalization of its relations with Israel occurred in accordance with orders from the United States and in exchange for 300 million dollars from Saudi Arabia, as he himself said. In his tweet on Twitter, Abd al-Lahyan added that the Sudanese people will not betray the cause of Jerusalem and Israel will not have a place in the region in the future.
Describe #Triumph The normalization of the relationship between the usurping entity and #Sudan An American victory? Why?!
Because this normalization in practice will not give Sudan anything, but it was taken from him when he paid hundreds of millions of the livelihood of his poor people, and more than that, the dear Sudanese of honor and dignity showed that he arrived at the house of the obedience broken and humiliated.

The Palestinian position
The Palestinian presidency also condemned the normalization of relations between Sudan and Israel, as it contradicts the Arab peace initiative approved at the Arab and Islamic summits. The Palestinian factions condemned this step. A member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, Abu Yusuf, described Sudan’s normalization of its relations with Israel as a new stab in the back of the Palestinian people and a betrayal of their just cause.
The leader of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), Sami Abu Zuhri, said that the announcement is painful and does not correspond to the history of Sudan that supported the Palestinian cause. The Islamic Jihad Movement viewed the agreement as a “real threat to the identity and future of Sudan,” describing it as a betrayal of the nation and the foundations of the Arab consensus.
On the other hand, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi said on Friday that he welcomes joint efforts by Sudan, the United States and Israel to normalize relations between Tel Aviv and Khartoum. The Emirates News Agency (WAM) quoted a statement from the Foreign Ministry when Abu Dhabi welcomed Sudan’s decision to normalize relations with Israel. The ministry said that “Sudan’s decision to initiate relations with the State of Israel is an important step to improve security and prosperity in the region.”
