The “Sputnik” agency quoted medical sources as saying that the Sheikh of Al-Afiouni, who runs the reconciliation center in and around the Qudsaya region and a member of the Legal Scientific Council of the Ministry of Endowments, was seriously injured and that his condition health is serious.
Immediately after the explosion, civil defense vehicles and ambulances rushed to the site and managed to retrieve the Opium Sheikh from the fires that broke out in him as a result of the explosion, while security services struck a narrow cordon around the neighborhood of Sheikh Al-Afyouni.
Sheikh Al-Afyouni is one of the most prominent figures who worked to achieve national reconciliation in the south and west of Damascus. In 2015, he went to great lengths to pressure militants in the Qudsaya and Al-Hama regions to separate from the Al-Nusra Front, surrender their weapons and return to normal life.
