Lawsuit Accuses Saudi Prince Of Ordering Khashoggi Killing
Khadija Genghis, the fiancée of slain Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, filed a lawsuit against the Saudi Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman, in the United States of America, accusing him of issuing an order to assassinate the Saudi journalist, two years ago. In addition to a human rights group founded by Khashoggi, Cengiz continues to persecute nearly twenty people involved in the crime that occurred at the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul. The civil lawsuit filed by Genghis, stating that he suffered financial loss and personal pain due to Khashoggi’s death. In the lawsuit, a direct indictment of Bin Salman and the claim that the goal of his assassination was “to stop Khashoggi’s advocacy in the United States for democratic reform in the Arab world.” Hatice Cengiz’s lawyers, along with the human rights group, said in an online video call that the lawsuit aims to hold “a US court to hold the crown prince responsible for the murder and to obtain documents that reveal the truth.” according to the “Washington Post” newspaper. In turn, Genghis commented, “Jamal believed that anything is possible in America and I trust the American civil justice system to achieve a degree of justice and accountability.”
