The Turkish fiancé of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, who was assassinated in Turkey in October 2018, filed a complaint in Washington on Tuesday against Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and other suspects in the case.

Khashoggi, an opinion columnist for the “Washington Post” and a critic of the Saudi regime, was assassinated after being close to him, and his body was cut up at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, where he was to obtain documents. His remains were never found.

His fiancée, Hatice Cengiz, believes that employees of the Saudi embassy in Washington “lured her fiancé” to the Saudi consulate in Turkey through a ruse (that) Turkey is the only place where he can get the document he needs.

The complaint filed in federal court in the US capital adds that “this erroneous and fatal trend took place in the United States and was part of a wider conspiracy that was supposed to have a direct impact on Khashoggi’s political activities in the United States.”

The complaint, in which he founded the opposition organization Khashoggi, “Democracy for the Arab World Now,” is directed at the Saudi crown prince and “many members of his close circle,” including former royal court adviser Saud Al-Qahtani. , and Deputy Chief of Intelligence Ahmed Al-Asiri.

A court in Istanbul initiated proceedings against the officials, whom the Turkish investigators considered the masterminds of the crime.

Khadija Genghis claims that she “lost love, comfort, moral support and affection” with the murder of Khashoggi, with whom she had contracted while awaiting the conclusion of her civil marriage.

The journalist’s fiancé is seeking damages, the value of which is supposed to be determined by the court.

Khashoggi’s assassination plunged Saudi Arabia into one of its worst diplomatic crises and tarnished the reputation of the Saudi crown prince, who was accused by Turkish and US officials of being the one who ordered the execution of the crime.

After denying its involvement in the assassination and providing numerous accounts of the events, Riyadh finally confirmed that the assassination was carried out by Saudi agents who acted individually without taking orders from their leaders. However, the Saudi crown prince said he “is responsible for the murder of Khashoggi” because it occurred while he was in a position of power.

In December 2019, a Saudi court sentenced five people to death and three others to prison in the case of the journalist’s murder. In September the death sentences were commuted.

This is not the first time a complaint has been filed against bin Salman, as former Saudi Minister of State and Intelligence, Saad Al-Jabri, has also filed a lawsuit against him, accusing him of “plotting a conspiracy that has been going on for several years by the Saudi government to torture and assassinate him on American and Canadian soil. “

The Wall Street Journal revealed that the Saudi crown prince tried to lure Al-Jabri to Turkey for possessing confidential documents related to Riyadh politics.
