The Presidency of the Republic stated in a statement that “today, October 16, 2020, Law No. 193 was issued, which aims to oblige banks operating in Lebanon to spend ten thousand dollars according to the exchange rate official dollar for the academic year 2020. -2021 for Lebanese university students studying abroad before the academic year 2020-2021 (known as student dollar), which was signed by the President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, on Friday passed after it was approved by the House of Representatives.
Here is the text of the law:
The House of Representatives approved and the President of the Republic publishes the following law, the text of which is:
Article 1: Banks operating in Lebanon must postpone a one-time financial transfer of a value not exceeding ten thousand US dollars for each Lebanese university student registered at universities or higher technical institutes outside of Lebanon before the year 2020-2021, from their accounts or the accounts of their guardians or Those who do not have bank accounts, in Lebanese national or foreign currency according to the official exchange rate of the 1515 LBP dollar And after the banks did what was necessary to verify the beneficiary’s right to:
Current registration certificate from the university or technical institute.
Declaration of payments from universities or technical institutes before 12/31/2020.
The current housing lease contract or the receipt of the last monthly payment.
Second Article: This law will enter into force as of its publication in the Official Gazette.
Other laws
Last Friday, President Aoun signed the laws passed by the House of Representatives, which are as follows:
Law N ° 186 of 10/16/2020 that modifies Law N ° 90 of 10/10/2018 related to the execution of a loan and an implementation agreement between the Republic of Lebanon and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development for the Roads and Employment Project.
Law No. 187 of 10/16/2020 containing the request for government approval to join the joint agreement on the safety of spent fuel disposal and the safety of radioactive waste disposal, which Lebanon signed on 9/30 / 1997.
Law No. 188 of 10/16/2020 that approves the government to enter into the protocol attached to the Euro-Mediterranean Association Agreement between the Republic of Lebanon and the European Union.
Law No. 189 of 10/16/2020: Law of disclosure of financial information and interests and sanction of illicit enrichment.
Law No. 190 of 10/16/2020, which authorizes private higher education institutions to recruit students for the promotion of “freshmen” in the 2020-2021 academic year, even if they have not yet passed the proficiency exams and performance.
Law No. 191 of 10/16/2020 aimed at strengthening basic guarantees and improving defense rights.
Law No. 192 of 10/16/2020 aimed at modifying Law No. 77 of 04/13/2018 (Water Law).
Law No. 194, of 10/16/2020, aimed at protecting the areas affected by the explosion in the port of Beirut and supporting reconstruction.
