“Lifting the arms embargo on Iran would be a great strategic mistake,” is the title of a joint article written by a group of French ministers, parliamentarians and writers, published by the newspaper Le Monde, in which it was warned that lifting the embargo arms to Iran would have serious consequences for international security and stability.

During a Le Monde forum, which included former parliamentarians, ministers and government officials, including Bernard Cazenov and Daniel Cohn-Bendit, participants unanimously agreed on the need to renew the embargo on Iran as an essential tool for preserving world peace.

The meeting considered that lifting the arms embargo on Tehran would have dangerous diplomatic, economic and security repercussions in the Middle East and the Indian subcontinent.

They also made it clear that it would contribute to increasing hostility and conflict in the Middle East and would constitute a new destabilizing factor in a region already undergoing serious crises, especially in Iraq, Syria, Yemen and Lebanon.

The newspaper said that this conflict is fueled by geostrategic, ideological, religious and economic factors.

On Sunday, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo warned that any arms sales to Iran would lead to sanctions, after Tehran confirmed that the United Nations ban on buying and selling conventional weapons had been “automatically” lifted. .

A statement from the Iranian Foreign Ministry, published today by Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif via Twitter, said: “As of today, all restrictions on arms transfers, related activities, financial services to and from the Islamic Republic Iran, and all prohibitions related to entry or transit. Through the territories of the United Nations member states imposed on various Iranian citizens and military officials, it was automatically canceled, ”according to Al-Arabiya.
