The spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Saeed Khatib Zadeh, confirmed, in a tweet on his Twitter account, on the occasion of the end of the arms embargo at dawn on Sunday, that “Iran, with its national production of more than 90 % of your defense needs, you don’t need to depend on the outside. “

The Foreign Ministry spokesman affirmed that “peace and stability in the region are among the main priorities of his country.”

For his part, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said in a tweet in Arabic on his Twitter account that, according to Agreement 2231, arms restrictions in my country will automatically end.

Zarif noted that “it is not strange that his country opposes indiscriminate weaponry. Weapons in Iran have always been defensive. They have not started wars and have not caused corruption like others.”

Iran’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement on the lifting of the arms embargo imposed on Iran, saying that “ending the arms embargo does not require a declaration or a new resolution from the UN Security Council.”

Iran’s Foreign Ministry noted that in contemporary history, “Iran was not the first in any war,” adding that “Tehran calls the attention of all countries in the world to schedule the implementation of Resolution 2231.”

Likewise, the State Department said in its statement that “Washington must abandon its subversive approach to Resolution 2231 and fully abide by UN resolutions,” explaining that “it must also stop ignoring international laws and destabilize security in the region. of Western Asia “.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani referred to the arms embargo on his country earlier and said: “Ten years of the arms embargo will end, and this will happen thanks to the efforts made by the Iranian people.”

On August 15, the UN Security Council rejected the US draft resolution aimed at extending the arms embargo imposed on Iran, which nullifies the effect of Security Council Resolution 2231 to lift sanctions against Iran, issued in 2015.

Most of the member states of the Security Council opposed the US draft resolution that extends the arms embargo on Iran and buys weapons from it.

The United States failed in its attempt to pass the draft resolution after Russia and China opposed it, and Britain, France, Germany and eight other members abstained from voting.

Washington previously warned that lifting the United Nations arms embargo on Iran would lead to “an escalation of violence in the Middle East.”

Likewise, the Secretary of State of the United States, Mike Pompeo, condemned the failure of the Security Council to reach a resolution to extend the arms embargo on Iran, and stressed that his country will continue “working in this direction.”

Russia and China confirmed their support for Iran regarding the “lifting of the arms embargo.” While China emphasized Iran’s right to have a “missile defense program,” Russia believed that “the United States is pursuing a unilateral policy aimed at putting pressure on the Iranian people.”

The United States has struggled to pressure the Security Council to approve its proposal to extend the arms embargo imposed on Iran, which is scheduled to expire next October.

Following its failure at the Security Council, the United States announced on September 20 that the UN sanctions against Iran had come into effect again, despite the organization’s refusal to do so, threatening countries that would not implement the sanctions. with “consequences”.

In a statement, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said: “The United States welcomes the return of all previously canceled United Nations sanctions against Iran, the leading sponsor of terrorism and anti-Semitism in the world.” He said.

The statement said that “almost all UN sanctions have been activated against Iran and include a permanent extension of the arms embargo.”

The arms embargo imposed on Iran is reported to end on October 18, 2020 (Sunday morning), under the terms of the 2015 nuclear deal, from which the United States withdrew in 2018.
