Armenia and Azerbaijan announced their agreement on a humanitarian truce in the disputed territory, Nagorno Karabakh, starting at around midnight local time.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia indicated that a humanitarian armistice was agreed with Azerbaijan in Nagorno Karabakh, starting at midnight the following day according to local time, while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan announced the conclusion of a temporary humanitarian truce. .
Azerbaijan said the Nagorno-Karabakh authorities declared their “readiness to comply with the humanitarian armistice.”
This came after further clashes on Saturday, and there were deaths and injuries after a missile was fired at Ganja, Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev described the missile attack in the Azerbaijani city of Ganja as a “war crime”, vowing to “respond on the battlefield and punish those responsible.”
“This is a war crime, a crime against humanity. If the international community does not want to punish them, we will punish those responsible. We will punish them on the battlefield, we will respond,” Aliyev said in a speech to the Azerbaijani people.
Notably, the Azerbaijani Prosecutor’s Office announced today that 15 people were killed and more than 50 injured after a missile was fired at Ganja, the second largest city in the country.
At the same time, the Defense Ministry of the Nagorno-Karabakh region reported that “intense fighting took place on all fronts, especially on the southern front.”
The Armenian Defense Ministry also reported that three Azerbaijani marches had been launched in Armenian airspace.
Armenia said its foreign minister will visit Washington before the end of the month to meet with his US counterpart, Mike Pompeo, and indicated that his visit is part of the Armenian-US strategic dialogue and to discuss the conflict in the region.
In a related context, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stressed in two phone calls with his Azerbaijani and Armenian counterparts the need to implement the Moscow agreement on a humanitarian ceasefire.
Lavrov also stressed the “importance of I.The divorce of the substantive negotiations to reach a peace agreement in Karabakh in accordance with the principles of the Minsk Group. ”
Previously, a truce was reached in Moscow between Armenia and Azerbaijan, after several calls from the international community, especially from the Minsk Group, which is chaired by Russia, France and the United States and which plays a mediating role in this conflict.
However, the truce was violated more than once, as the two sides continue to exchange accusations of committing “war crimes” and attacking civilians in the battles that began on September 27.
