Lebanese President Michel Aoun said Friday that Lebanon has the US mediating role to reach just solutions during negotiations to demarcate maritime borders with Israel.

Aoun’s words came during his meeting with United States Under Secretary of State for Middle East Affairs David Schenker, who expressed his hope that negotiations to demarcate the maritime borders between Lebanon and Israel will be completed as soon as possible and that positive results are achieved.

On the other hand, Schenker praised, according to the page of the Lebanese presidency on “Twitter”, the positive role that President Aoun is playing in the fight against corruption and changing the approach that prevailed.
In this context, Aoun emphasized that work is being done to establish a clean government that focuses on achieving the necessary reforms, indicating that the criminal audit is an essential step to restore state rights and reactivate the economy.
Last Wednesday, Schenker participated in the inauguration of the first round of negotiations to demarcate the borders between Lebanon and Israel, which took place at the UNIFIL headquarters in southern Lebanon, in the presence of United Nations representatives.
Schenker also met yesterday with the Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, Nabih Berri, and discussed with him the course of the first round of talks and the general situation in Lebanon.
