Health Minister Hamad Hassan announces the start of the collapse of the drug mafia in Lebanon!

Acting Government Minister of Public Health Hamad Hassan toured pharmacies and drug depots in Zahle district, where he discovered several of them trafficking drugs out of Lebanon, and a decision was made to close them with red wax based on the referral. of the Attorney General of Appeals in Bekaa, Munif Barakat.

In a statement, the Health Minister confirmed that “the collapse of the drug mafia began in Lebanon,” and said: “We all know the history of the monopoly of large quantities of drugs, which began with the quantities that were seized in the airport by the central pharmaceutical inspection and we received them. “

He added: “We met with the agents, the Importers Union, the National Association of Drug Manufacturers and others, and we began to pursue the network until we reached it. Today we visit the Bekaa region to verify the stocks of medicines and determine the mechanism for dispensing and distributing them, accompanied by inspectors. Pharmacies that cannot justify the sale of the quantities and the party to which they were sold will be closed. The pharmaceutical inspection will carry out the investigation in coordination with the competent judicial authorities “.

He continued: “We check the ‘microfiber’ of great medicine, whether for daily service or for traffic. There is a pharmacy that has bought 8,000 pieces of ‘colchicine’ from the agent directly from the pharmacies and not from the warehouses.
The decision to close it was made with the support of elements of the Internal Security and State Security Forces. I recalled amounts of colchicine ranging from 2,000 to 6,000 packs of medication over a month, and I also recalled 5,000 boxes of neurobion.

Majdal Anjar
During his inspection of a pharmacy in Majdal Anjar, Minister Hassan said: “We asked the Banque du Liban for import invoices and we examined the quantities that the importer had in stock, and we asked for the invoices under which he sold the missing medicines such as colchicine. . The store sold this amount to the pharmacy where we are now, because the pharmacy law does not allow wholesale, but to the public. Sell ​​amounts according to the information we have and transfer them to financial crimes, the Financial Prosecutor’s Office and the competent Judiciary ”.

He continued: “We sent a person to this pharmacy to order this drug, and it was reported that it was not available, and after inspection it was found that there are hundreds of pieces. This is called the organized drug mafia, from the importer to the warehouse and the pharmacies. Our tours will extend to all of Lebanon and our procedures will be at the scale of the perpetration, and there is no one. ” Reservations to anyone.

In response to a question, he said: “It is true that we are in an area close to the Syrian border, but their objective is not necessarily smuggling into Syria. Minister Hassan abruptly started his tour of the Bekaa in the city of Zahle, inspected the old “Government Hospital of Muallaqa”, in which work is being carried out, to study the possibility of using it as a Corona patient hospital for the prisoners of Roumieh .

Hassan said: “We are here to study our capacity and the logistical capacity of the center to rehabilitate some sections in it and use it to treat injured prisoners, provided that international donors, the International Red Cross and the Ministry of Public Health and we raise The disposition”.

He noted that it is “an inspection visit, which will be followed by a large-scale visit by specialists to find out the time needed to rehabilitate it and the extent to which it will be used in the short and long term.”

The Health Minister then went to Saraya Zahle, where he met with the Bekaa Governor, Judge Kamal Abu Jawdeh. He praised the efforts of the Bekaa and Baalbek-Hermel governorates and noted the low number of wounded there.

For his part, Abu Jawdeh stressed that awareness, rigor and commitment to prevention are among the main factors that have prevented the increase in the number of injuries, and that is what we always emphasize.

After that, Hassan moved to the Health Authority in Bekaa, whose center is in Saraya Zahle, and met with the inspectors of the Central Inspectorate of Pharmacists in Bekaa, in the presence of the head of the authority, Dr. Ghassan Zalakat, and the judge’s physician, Dr. Walid Abdo.
