Netanyahu said: “Yesterday we started contacts with Lebanon to negotiate on the water borders, due to its economic importance … I ask the Lebanese government to continue these contacts to end the water border problem, and perhaps in the future there will come a day for this to form the basis of real peace. “
On Wednesday, Israel said it would continue negotiations with Lebanon regarding the maritime borders between them, after the first short meeting between the two countries held today.
Israeli Energy Minister Yuval Steinitz said in a statement that he agreed that the Israeli delegation would go ahead with the talks “to give the process a chance.”
The head of the Lebanese delegation, after the first round of negotiations, expressed his aspiration to complete this file within a reasonable period of time.
The two sides are expected to hold a second round of talks on October 28.
