To clarify the issue of medicines and the elimination of subsidies to it, the “National News Agency” met with the head of the Lebanese Union of Medicine Importers, Karim Jabara, who said: “We are not in the process of eliminate subsidies permanently. In my opinion, the biggest trend is the reduction of subsidies, corresponding to an alternative plan that protects the citizen, guarantors and the health system in Lebanon. ”

He added: “I built this opinion as a result of the contacts I made, especially with the Presidency of the Republic, and in particular the adviser to the President, Dr. Walid Khoury, who with the Presidency of the Council of Ministers represented by Dr. Petra Khoury , the Minister of Health personally and her advisers and the Bank of Lebanon as well. Therefore, citizens must be sure to control the state of fear and panic. It specifically affected those who suffered from chronic and incurable diseases such as cancer, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and others, who rushed to store the drug for several months with the news of the lifting of subsidies.

In his speech, Jabara assured that “there is no rapid change in the bases of support, because we still have time to study the alternative plan that is being discussed and for it to be approved for its implementation. We have finally heard from the leading circles of the Central Bank that the support remains and it is possible to change it “. The mechanism and an alternative plan that protects the health sector in Lebanon.

He continued: “This was also confirmed by Health Minister Hamad Hassan during an emergency meeting held earlier this week at the Health Ministry to discuss the drug crisis, that lifting support will not take place. and that the political and labor forces will not accept the matter, because it is likely that no one will raise their support and it is our duties as officials in the Lebanese state. ” Assure people that we will not leave them without an alternative plan, and that every patient has the right to receive their medication. “

He said: “The committees meet intensively every week to deviate from the recommendations that may be generated in these two weeks, and I hope that we achieve a fair result that protects the health system in Lebanon and the diversity in existing medicines and their quality, and that we do not move to a lower quality medicine to lower prices, and also protect “. Stock of foreign currency in the Central Bank of Lebanon “.

And he added: “The state of panic among the people began about a month ago, and must end now. We deliver their monthly needs to the pharmacies. Every month we receive a shipment of medicines, we feed the market with them and their substitute enters to the warehouses. But the problem is that if we spend from the stock that has been made. ” Storing it for two months, we will reach a state of drug disruption, this is because people rush to pharmacies and store the drug for three months or more.

And he added, “Therefore, the best solutions at this stage continue to be the rationing of the delivery of medicines at the request of the Ministry of Health and coordination between the three unions, the Association of Importers of Medicines, Pharmacists and Doctors, provided that the doctor prescribes the drug to the patient for a period of one month only. ”

Regarding the smuggling of medicines to Egypt and the investigation revealed in the statement by the Internal Security Forces, he pointed out that “these are known as“ bag smugglers ”, and admitted that they had collected medicines in various pharmacies to sell them, and What happened was not an organized smuggling through large shipments by land or That is why we call on all legal crossings to monitor and enforce massively and not allow any traveler to take medicine except for a month. I want the security services to inform all travelers of the measures that will be taken against those who smuggle drugs, and not just confiscate them. “

Regarding Iranian medicines, he revealed: “The company that imports from Iran is not affiliated with the Syndicate and I have no direct knowledge of this issue, but we are not against any product or medicine that enters Lebanon from any country if it is subject to the norms and laws of the Ministry of Health “.
