WASHINGTON: The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation said Tuesday that it had not reached a conclusive conclusion about the cause of the August 4 explosion in the port of Beirut, which killed nearly 200 people and caused billions. dollars in damages.

There is a strong belief among US and European government agencies that are closely monitoring investigations that the explosion was an accident.

“No such conclusion has been reached,” an FBI spokeswoman told Reuters by email. He referred to a statement in which the FBI previously said: “We will provide our Lebanese partners with investigation assistance.

“Other questions should be directed to the Lebanese authorities as the main investigating body.”

Lebanese media reported today, Tuesday, that an FBI report was delivered to a Lebanese judge on Monday. The Bureau of Investigation declined to comment on the reports.

Two US government sources familiar with official reports and analysis of the accident said that US agencies were largely convinced that the explosion, which included large amounts of ammonium nitrate that had been stored in one of the harbor buildings for years, it was an accident.

A European government source familiar with the intelligence reports and analysis said official European experts also estimated the blast to be an accident.
