Two meetings at Serail, the first on the economic and financial situation, and the second on the repercussions of the port explosion

Acting Prime Minister Hassan Diab chaired a meeting dealing with the economic, financial and social situation and negotiations with the International Monetary Fund, which was attended by Ministers Zeina Aker, Ghazi Wazni, Raoul Nehme, Imad Hoballah, Ramzi Musharrafieh and Abbas Mortada, Governor of the Banque du Liban Riad Salameh, General Secretary of Judges of the Mahmoud Makiya Council and the President of the Banking Association, Salim Sfeir.

A presentation was made of the contacts that the Minister of Finance maintains with the IMF periodically, and the attendees were informed about the stages of the work of the Álvarez Penal Financial Audit Company for Banque du Liban, which is supposed to begin soon. In this context, Diab highlighted “his refusal to talk about the cancellation of subsidies, and his focus on rationalizing support for food, medicine, flour and fuel.”

Diab also held another meeting in the presence of Minister Aker and Ministers Muhammad Fahmy, Michel Najjar, Tariq Majzoub, Hamad Hassan, Marie Claude Najm and Charbel Wehbe, Secretary General of the Council of Ministers Mahmoud Makiya, President of the Council for Development and Reconstruction Nabil Al -Jisr, Governor of Beirboud, Judge Marwan For the High Relief Authority, Major General Muhammad Khair, Head of the Advanced Emergency Room, Brigadier General Sami Howeik, Brigadier General Fares Faris, Brigadier General Elias Al-Bisri, the head of the Disaster Risk Management Unit Zahi Shaheen and the adviser to Prime Minister Elias Assaf.

The issue of dealing with the aftermath of the Beirut port explosion was discussed. In this context, Diab reaffirmed “the implementation of the decision related to the payment of compensation by the Higher Relief Commission for some 10,000 damaged homes, in addition to the compensation paid by various donors, and the need to accelerate the strengthening of ruined buildings and the restoration of the facades of buildings, government buildings and public schools “. He also informs attendees of the immediate removal of the landfills after securing their collection site, and addressing the issue of warehouses in the port that contain burning materials, which number 49.

The meeting also discussed the prison file in the face of the Corona epidemic outbreak, and how to reduce overcrowding, as well as the allocation of hospitals and beds for injured prisoners. A special meeting will be held on this subject later.

They then discussed the issue of waste, the expansion of the Burj Hammoud-Al-Jadida landfill and the cleaning of sewers in Beirut ahead of the winter season.
