Syrian businessman Rami Makhlouf announced his donation of 7 billion Syrian pounds to people in areas affected by the recent fires in his country.
Makhlouf said in an appeal made on his personal Facebook page to “Our People on the Syrian Coast” that he has allocated part of Ramac’s profits to development and humanitarian projects at Syriatel Company to support our people on the coast, especially in the areas affected by fires, with an amount of 7 billion pounds (equivalent to 5.5 million dollars at official prices. And 3.5 million dollars according to the parallel price).
And since the company is under judicial surveillance, as a result of the crisis between Makhlouf and the Syrian government, Makhlouf explained that he sent a letter to the judicial guard appointed by Syriatel asking them to convene an immediate general meeting to distribute the profits of the company o to elect a board of directors that could distribute the profits and not deprive those affected by it. Makhlouf promised that “in case of delay in holding this meeting and not distributing the sums, we hold the judicial guard, which is the telecommunications institution, fully responsible for depriving our people of this financial support and that it is urgently needed” .
Makhlouf indicated that he would distribute these sums “after obtaining them in conjunction with the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs.”
