Former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger said that the United States and China must put limits on the confrontation, otherwise the world will find itself in a situation similar to the First World War.
A report by the agency “Bloomberg” said that Kissinger believed that the United States and China, whose conflict could be called a “new cold war”, should delimit the borders of the confrontation, stressing that without this, it is impossible to achieve a generalized de-escalation.
The former US Secretary of State said: “You can say that this is completely impossible. But if this is completely impossible, we will find ourselves in a situation similar to the First World War.
Kissinger believed that the conflict between Washington and Beijing was due to the emergence of new technologies that changed the geopolitical landscape.
The former minister, nicknamed the Fox of American diplomacy, affirmed his conviction that the time has come for the United States to realize the changes in the modern world, matters that he said are so complex that no country can continue to maintain its hegemony at the same time, either in the economy or in the strategic field.
Kissinger had declared in 2019 that the conflict between the United States and China could have “dire consequences” that would be “worse than the consequences of world wars.” To avoid this, he advised the two countries to resolve their differences.
It is also noteworthy that China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi announced last July that Beijing would take firm and decisive action against Washington if diplomatic relations between the two countries deteriorated.
