The National Assembly unanimously approved the selection of Sheikh Meshaal, who has held the post of Deputy Chief of the National Guard with ministerial rank since 2004, in a session held at its headquarters in the capital.

“I promise the Emir, his council and the citizens that I will be … a loyal citizen who preserves the national unity (of his country),” the new crown prince told the National Assembly after taking the oath.

He addressed the Kuwait National Assembly, after taking the oath, and stressed: “We are confident that Kuwait will continue its pioneering march calling for good and peace,” and stressed that “Kuwait remains committed to its Arab, regional and international obligations. “.

Sheikh Meshaal Al-Ahmad was sworn in earlier, in front of the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Nawwaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, as Crown Prince.

The Emir of Kuwait said: “We trust that Sheikh Meshaal will continue to serve the country and achieve its interests.”

For his part, Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled said: “We are proud of the smooth transition of power in accordance with the constitution.”

Yesterday, the Emir of Kuwait issued an order from the Emir recommending Sheikh Meshaal Al-Ahmad as crown prince, according to the official Kuwait news agency (KUNA).

Sheikh Meshaal is considered the most powerful man in the National Guard, an independent military corps of the army and police that was established in 1967 to support the armed forces and public security agencies and is led by Sheikh Salem Al-Ali Al- Sabah.
