The city of Stepanakert, the unilaterally proclaimed “capital” of the Upper Karabakh Republic, was attacked on Wednesday night and Thursday with fresh bombardments, AFP journalists reported.

Throughout the night from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. local time, sirens sounded at regular intervals throughout the city, followed by violent explosions that shook the ground, three to four at a time.

As happened the night before, the projectiles fell on the city almost every hour. The human and material losses of these latest attacks are not yet known.

It was not possible to confirm what kind of weapons the Azerbaijani forces used. However, local authorities condemn the indiscriminate bombardment of urban areas with the lethal 300mm “Smirtch” missiles, inheritors of the Katyusha rockets.

And it seems that unexploded ordnance of this type are seen in the city, while the houses were completely destroyed by these projectiles. The depth of some of the craters caused by the bombardment is ten meters in places, which indicates the strength of the bombs used.

Drones also regularly fly over the city, mainly during the day, and appear to be conducting more precise sniper operations.
