There are also parties that presented the French initiative in a different context than it was originally and did not abide by what was agreed during the meeting.
Regarding the assignment of Mustafa Adib to form a new government, Khalil said: “The president-designate, Mustafa Adib, was frank and clear with us that he would not agree to raise a government in confrontation with any internal party. I send my sincere greetings to President Adib, who did not deny a word of what he said from the beginning and from the first moment said that he would not present a confrontational government with within.
Khalil emphasized: “We did not practice the role of the great majority and we were believers, and we still agree, and there are no red lines in the relationship with anyone, neither with the former prime ministers nor with Hariri, but the whole process of training”.
He noted that “the issue of the Ministry of Finance was raised earlier and we presented our justifications for appointing a Finance Minister from the Shiite community, who was established for it immediately after Taif, and everything has justifications from the Troika and others. We affirm that this matter strengthens the national alliance. We have great comments on Hariri’s statement on government affairs, but this is your position and you have the right to express, as we do, express our position and adhere to it.
On the subject of the United States sanctions that affected him, Khalil said: “I did not find out about the news of the sanctions against me until it was announced in the media, and I say it in the presence of American officials, and they know my position on the resistance and the political movement, and I am not surprised by the sanctions “, emphasizing that he is fulfilling his duties normally and normally. Especially the meetings with Hezbollah, and today I had a meeting with Hezbollah Deputy Secretary General Hussein al-Khalil.
He added: “Anyone who knows President Nabih Berri knows that he is not brave, neither with sanctions nor with a policy of pressure, and the US sanctions against me and my family are a tax that I bear for adhering to the line of resistance, and all the who works in that direction does not care about the consequences. My position is the position expressed by the Presidency in the Amal Movement, that sanctions do not affect the person but the organization, and we cannot isolate sanctions from the road.
Khalil noted: “We are interested in the relationship with the Sunni component and with Prime Minister Hariri.” And President Berri is convinced that this country cannot advance by weakening any component, and any alteration of the balance will affect the stability of the country and the possibilities of its advance. In response to a question, Khalil said: “President Berri today is not in a position to justify anyone’s posture and resistance … We finished a battle and entered a new battle, which is the battle to demarcate the borders. Our convictions are consistent and we practice them responsibly in all settings. We have great confidence in ourselves, in our role and in our responsibility to the Lebanese and abroad.
