In a delicate and delicate operation, which was carried out under strong security measures, on Saturday, the Dutch central bank moved its national stock of gold, which is 14 thousand bars and about a thousand boxes of gold coins, from its headquarters in Amsterdam, to a huge treasure in the nearby city of Harlem.

In addition to the bullion, worth 10 billion euros ($ 11.7 billion), the bank transferred another 4.5 billion euros ($ 5.3 billion) in bonds in the operation led by the Royal Dutch Military Police.

The cash and gold were transported about 20 kilometers in trucks, guarded by the armed military police, amid columns of police motorcycles, and under the supervision of a police helicopter, they flew over.

The operation began on Friday and ended on Saturday afternoon, while the Military Police said in a statement that “the carefully planned operation was carried out smoothly and safely.”

The move came about due to the renovation of the Central Bank headquarters in Amsterdam, where the bonds will be transferred and the bank has moved, permanently, to a basement that has yet to be built in the central city of Zeist.

Notably, the Dutch central bank does not store all its gold in the Netherlands, as it has large reserves stored in the United States, Great Britain and Canada.
