A woman received an official apology from an airline after she refused to be allowed to board the plane, claiming that “her appearance does not suggest that she is a woman.”

Anna Torivo, 42, said in a post on her Instagram account that she faced a “terrifying situation when I asked her personal and embarrassing questions in front of the passengers, minutes before my flight on Russian Otter Airlines.”

The Russian weightlifting champion, who opted to shave her hair, said: “I was initially banned from traveling from St. Petersburg to my city, Krasnodar, via Moscow, because security personnel thought I was a man.”

“They said that my passport indicates that I am a woman, but my appearance does not suggest that. It was humiliating. I was reprimanded as a child in front of people in line. Shameful questions were asked.”

“Everybody was following this situation while I was trying to prove that I really was a woman. Then a miracle happened and I was allowed to get on the plane.”

Later, in his personal account, he criticized the behavior of the employees of the company “Otter”, which caused the latter to quickly apologize.

The company said in a statement: “We apologize for the negative feelings I experienced. This is unacceptable behavior. We will verify employee behavior and work to resolve the situation.”

Torivo, who is currently a weightlifting coach, has a significant number of records, medals, and achievements representing her country in international competitions.
