The United Arab Emirates is one of the biggest supporters of INTERPOL’s efforts since joining the organization in 1997, whether in the field of fighting international terrorism and organized crime, or in training programs for police forces. of the Member States.

In November 2018, Dubai hosted the activities of the 87th session of the Interpol General Assembly, in a version that was widely praised, during which Major General Dr. Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, Inspector General of the UAE Ministry of the Interior , won the membership of the Executive Committee of the organization.

Its success was blessed at that time by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, Lieutenant General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, considering in a Twitter post that it was the fruit of what was planted by the Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Al-Raisi is Abu Dhabi’s candidate for the presidency of the international organization whose General Assembly is expected to meet in the Emirates next December to elect its new president for the period 2021-2024.

INTERPOL’s president is elected by a two-thirds majority of the organization’s members for a four-year term, while its three deputies are elected for a non-renewable three-year term.

Candidates are nominated to head the organization in accordance with its basic law, at the proposal of any member state that designates it for the positions of the Executive Committee, provided that the president and his alternates are chosen from among the nine delegates of the committee, a position that currently occupies the president.

The International Criminal Police Organization, known by its acronym as Interpol, is an intergovernmental organization that consists of 194 member states and is based in Lyon, France.

The organization is a link between countries in terms of exchanging information related to crimes and criminals, and provides assistance on the ground to arrest them, while its general secretariat manages day-to-day activities, whether police or administrative.

The “General Assembly” is considered the highest organ of the organization and is made up of representatives of its members. Each delegation is headed by a person appointed by a specialized government authority in the country in question, according to Al Ain Al-Akhbariya.
