The Counter Terrorism Service in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq confirmed that the Iranian-backed Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) fired 6 missiles at the Erbil airport.

The satellite channel “Al-Ahed” on Telegram pointed to a suffocating traffic jam in the Kurdistan region of Iraq and the closure of the highway between Mosul and Erbil after the launch of the missiles.

According to information from the Counter-Terrorism Service in Iraqi Kurdistan, six rockets were fired at Erbil from a village in the Nineveh Plain, east of Mosul.

Three rockets struck the headquarters of an Iranian Kurdish opposition party and a similar one landed near the Erbil airport, which includes camps for the International Coalition.

The agency confirmed the missiles were launched from more advanced Katyushas, denying any news that the Patriot system shot down a missile.

The agency explained that the attack did not result in casualties.

Iraqi television channel Alsumaria, citing a security source, stated that “the target of a US military missile base near the Erbil airport has been thwarted.”

The source added that one of the missiles landed near the headquarters of an opposition party to Iran, and the second in an agricultural village, and started a brush fire, while the third was being searched.

The leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Hoshyar Zebari, previously said that three rockets fell near the Erbil airport and described the incident as “a new escalation against the security of Iraq.” “The same party is responsible for the rocket fire in Baghdad and Erbil,” he said.
