The powerful Lebanese bloc held its periodic meeting electronically headed by Deputy Gebran Bassil, and issued the following statement: “In parallel with the importance of forming a new government that assumes the task of the required reform and adheres to the culmination and success of the French initiative, the strong Lebanese bloc paused with great interest in the next legislative session tomorrow, highlighting that the priority of priorities for tomorrow’s session are the laws related to the reconstruction of Beirut, and it is a set of laws of incentive, compensation or protection that were submitted by the bloc, and the president of the House of Representatives called to place them in the first plenary session, and they were approved in the mixed commissions, and the bloc wants President Berri to initiate these laws from the beginning. The session is to confirm that there is no national priority over the issue of the port explosion and the serious damage it has caused to the capital and its people.

The bloc considers it a priority to carry out reforms such as the Illicit Enrichment Law and support for affected citizens. It considers that it is not permissible to give priority to the General Amnesty Law, which is the subject of controversy and contradicts the requirements of national reconciliation, especially since the proposed formula will lead to the release of terrorists who intentionally murdered members of the army AND the forces Security and more than a thousand drug traffickers have caused great misery to the citizens, at a time when the country needs more reforms and militancy than more indolence and laziness.

The bloc’s position on the amnesty law is well known, as it is not covered by the letter and there has not been a serious and sufficient discussion to reach a solution to this issue.

Consequently, the bloc fears that insisting on adopting the amnesty law in this way will expose the session and the laws contained in it to the risk of acute division and, unfortunately, will force us to absent ourselves from the session or withdraw from it if we insist on not resolve the issues of the letter and at the national level.
