The players of the Portuguese club Lositania Loraza left the stadium on foot after losing the Portuguese Cup, after the club’s management decided to leave the team bus without the players.

Videos posted on Twitter showed the team’s players walking back to the club’s training venue, which is about 5 km from the match stadium.

Losara, the third-division opponent, lost 1-0 in the tournament’s first round to local rival Sao Joao de Vere on Sunday.

The club’s president, Hugo Mendes, told the newspaper “De Noticias” that the team made the decision as a form of self-criticism, and explained that “there was no penalty.”

However, the Portuguese Players Association confirmed that the club had requested that the team bus leave without the players.

In a statement, the federation said: “The federation expects nothing less from the president of Lorazza to present an immediate apology to the team for this regrettable incident that does not honor Portuguese football.”

The Portuguese Cup includes 165 teams from the first four divisions of the league, while the Illuminations League clubs will participate in the third round.
