The Lebanese club Al-Ahed, holder of the AFC Cup, made a technical change by appointing former star Reda Antar as their team coach, instead of Spaniard Daniel Jiménez, less than a week before the start of the 61st edition of the local league.
Jiménez, 36, took over the “Yellow Genius” training about three months ago, succeeding Basem Marmar, who moved to train the Kuwaiti Arab.
The league champion did not perform at the level he knows during the preparatory matches for the new season, losing in a friendly tournament to opponents Al-Ansar (0-2) and Najma (2-4). And the eighth of its history.
The club said in an official statement posted on its official Facebook page, “The management of the Al Ahed Club met and decided to appoint Captain Reda Antar as technical director of the first team. Captain Daniel Khomenis had wished that the management of Al Ahed Club exempted him from his responsibility at the level of management of the technical staff while putting his capacities at the disposal of the team “. Antar, 40, is considered one of the most outstanding players in the history of Lebanese football, having played for a long time in the German League, moving between Hamburg (2001-2003), Freiburg (2003-2007) and Colin ( 2007-2009).
He also played in the Chinese League with Shandong Yuning (2009-2013), Jiangsu Sainty (2014) and Hangzhou Greentown (2015), then concluded his career from where he launched with Solidarity Pictures for the 2016-2017 season.
In terms of training, Antar had an experience with Racing Beirut between 2017 and 2019, as the team dropped to second division rank. The Lebanese Football Association appointed Antar as coach of the Olympic team about two months ago.
