Finn Valtteri Bottas, a Mercedes driver, won the Russian Grand Prix in the tenth round of the Formula 1 World Championship, which was held at the “Sochi” circuit on Sunday.

Bottas’ coronation came after two delayed penalties were imposed on his British colleague Lewis Hamilton, world champion and leader of the general classification, for committing a foul before the start of the race.

Hamilton started the race from first place and hoped to win to equal the world record for racing crowns (91 wins), set since 2006 on behalf of retired German Michael Schumacher, but finished third behind Red Bull driver Max Verstappen of the Netherlands. .

Hamilton’s hopes of accomplishment were dashed when race supervisors punished him with two delay penalties, each of five seconds, for training him to start the race outside of the specified area as he headed to the starting location.

Hamilton still deserves top spot on the drivers’ list, a 44-point lead over Bottas, ahead of the last seven races of the season. With Bottas’ victory, Mercedes consolidated its dominance at the Russian Grand Prix by winning every race since the event began at the Sochi circuit in 2014.
