“Once again, Armenia, which launched a new attack against Azerbaijan, has shown that it represents the greatest threat to peace and stability in the region. Today, the Turkish people, as always, support their Azerbaijani brothers,” Erdogan said in a series of tweets posted Sunday.

Erdogan pointed out that “the international community, which has once again not responded to the necessary and sufficient degree to the provocation of Armenia, is once again showing its double standards.”

The Turkish president called on the Armenian people to extract their self-determination from the hands of their leaders, who considered “dragging them into disaster and using them as puppets.” He added: “We also urge the whole world to support Azerbaijan in its fight against occupation and injustice.”

He stressed that he assured Aliyev in a telephone conversation between them on Sunday that Turkey will continue to strengthen its solidarity with the “Azerbaijani brothers” within the framework of the concept of “one people in two states.”

On Sunday morning, heavy armed clashes broke out on the line of contact between the Azerbaijani and Armenian forces.

Azerbaijan said that Armenian armed forces fired at residential centers on the line of contact in the unknown Republic of Karabakh and that the shelling resulted in the death of civilians.

For its part, Armenia accused the Azerbaijani side of launching “air and missile strikes” in Karabakh, and the Armenian authorities announced a general mobilization in the country.
