Relatives of those detained in Lebanese prisons blocked the roads that connect the governorates, demanding the approval of the general amnesty law that will be discussed in the legislative session to be held by Parliament at the UNESCO Palace, next Wednesday and Thursday, in the midst of contacts that are taking place between all the parliamentary blocs to know their orientations regarding the law and the amendments that will occur to them.
The families of the detainees put pressure on the authorities by holding sit-ins in four provinces. In Sidon, in the south, the families of those convicted and detained in the factual record held a sit-in under the title “Continuation of the escalation”, to demand a general amnesty for the prisoners.
The protesters marched towards the center of the city, and paused in the middle of the road, which led to cutting off traffic in the place in both directions, carrying banners calling for a general amnesty. He spoke on behalf of the protesters, Khaled Al-Bobo, calling for a comprehensive general amnesty “that does not exclude anyone, especially Islamist detainees,” noting that it is “the demand of the Mufti of the Republic, Sheikh Abd al-Latif Derian, the Supreme Council of Sharia and Muslim scholars in all regions. “
He hinted at “the escalation of movements in Sidon and in all regions in case a comprehensive amnesty is not passed,” and called on protesters and the people to prepare to “take to the streets everywhere,” and said that ” reducing sentences is totally unacceptable. “
In the Bekaa, the families of the prisoners closed the Dahr al-Baidar road in both directions, demanding “to accelerate the approval of the general amnesty and improve the conditions of their children in the face of the spread of the Corona virus in prisons.” And they raised banners denouncing “the continuous delay in approving the amnesty”, and others asking “to establish a session to approve a general amnesty as soon as possible.”
At the end of the sit-in, the road was reopened and the people continued their movement and moved to the entrance of the Zahle Men’s Prison, and they held a new sit-in in which they demanded to speed up the approval of the amnesty and improve the conditions of the prisoners, before the spread of the Crown epidemic, and compassion for those who suffer from chronic diseases such as cancer and others, as reported. The official Lebanese National Information Agency.
In Tripoli, in the north, the families of Islamist detainees in Roumieh prison blocked the road in front of the Tripoli brigades and held a sit-in demanding “the release of their children in Roumieh prison and the approval of a general amnesty law, especially since the Corona virus has spread widely among prisoners. “
In Beirut, families of prisoners cut off the old airport road as traffic jams spread to the Qasqas and Tayouneh areas. A sit-in was also held at the intersection of the Sports City in the direction of Beirut to pressure officials to approve the amnesty.
Contacts are taking place between the political blocs to produce appropriate amendments to the formulation of the old law, which Parliament did not approve at the end of May, and work is being done to produce the law in the consensual form that was proposed in the last session of the Council, during which discrepancies arose between the blocs due to political considerations and sectarian quotas. .
The “Central News Agency” reported that the new data indicates that most blocs agree that the amnesty law has become an urgent necessity, especially after the Corona virus has reached prisons. It is being worked on, “and it is the subject of personal attention and care by the President of Parliament, Nabih Berri.
