The Media Office of the Minister of Education and Higher Education in the interim government, Dr. Tariq Al-Majzoub, circulated a revised statement on the decisions taken after the Crown Committee meeting in the Government Serail, and stated:
First: Because the percentage of positive cases exceeded 8% of the examinations during the last two weeks, this percentage according to health references is dangerous to return to school, and to preserve the health situation in Lebanon, it is decided to postpone the return to public and private schools for all grades (from kindergarten to classes. The third high school inclusive) and institutes up to the baccalaureate level, until Monday, October 12, 2020, provided a decision is issued with these details later. The official examinations will be completed with the adoption of the necessary sanitary measures.
Second: The Cabinet’s decision related to doubling the speed of the Internet and the volume of consumption on a temporary basis and land subscriptions has been extended within the available technical capacities and without additional costs.
Third: We have obtained, in cooperation with donor countries and organizations, free stationery for 150,000 students in grades one through six in public schools, and we are working to secure the rest.
Fourth: We provide masks, sterilization tools, thermometers and other supplies free of charge to all official schools and high schools.
Fifth, we succeeded in restoring all official educational institutions, including the schools, secondary schools and faculties of the Lebanese University, and several private university institutions that were damaged by the sinful explosion of the port.
Sixth: We transferred $ 8 million to the Banque du Liban for the benefit of school funds and official averages, and the amount will be delivered at the price of the platform. We will soon transfer $ 8 million to all public and high schools.
In this difficult health situation, we hope that everyone will benefit from the next two weeks to adhere to preventive measures to reduce the injury rate, so that we can ensure return to schools through blended learning and full work with the rest of the ministries involved to ensure the distance learning requirements.
It was agreed with the Minister of Public Health to accompany the return of school attendance by conducting a free pcr examination for any suspected case according to a specific health education protocol. Ultimately, public and private schools, high schools and institutes up to the baccalaureate level will remain closed in attendance for a period of two weeks. And we emphasize that there will be no assistance teaching even for students in official certification classes in the public and private sectors before the date of October 12, but we will complete the formal examinations specified in these two weeks with the taking of the necessary measures.
We take this opportunity to ask everyone to adhere to preventive measures to preserve our educational sector, this sector that will mark the future generations of Lebanon ”.
