The Lebanese Judiciary announced that the number of detainees in the case of the bomb attack in the port of Beirut has reached 25, and that 28 people have been charged, while 31 people have been heard, which helps to determine responsibilities at all levels.
The Supreme Council of the Judiciary said in a statement that “In light of the news, information and analysis that is being circulated about the ongoing investigations, which can sometimes be inaccurate, the judicial investigator, Judge Fadi Sawan, considered that it is It is necessary to inform the public opinion of the procedures that have been carried out to date, to the extent permitted. “
He said that the judicial investigator, who continues to investigate and study the file and the documents and reports it contains on a daily basis, follows a methodology that is divided into the following two axes:
The first is to continue with the study of the crime scene and analyze all the data associated with it, whether in the field, laboratory or technically and technically, and carry out the necessary investigations in this regard, especially the use of international and local experts to help technically determine all possible causes of the explosion.
In this context, the judicial investigator issued several international authorizations, and is awaiting the arrival of French, American and British technical and laboratory reports to respond to these assignments, in order to determine the causes that motivated the explosion. . It also granted local assignments to the Army Intelligence, the Military Police and the Information Division of the Internal Security Forces to achieve the same objective.
As for the second axis, it is about monitoring the conduct of interrogations and issuing arrest warrants when necessary – the number of detainees has reached 25 to date, while the number of accused reaches 28 – and listen to the witnesses, whose number reaches 31 to date, from the prime minister to ministers, judges, directors general and heads of security services.
Today, the judicial investigator heard the testimonies of four witnesses, and over the next week hear a large number of witnesses in this file.
