After an absence of about 11 years from the art scene, the Italian star Sophia Loren (1934) returns to the character of “Madame Rosa” in Life Ahead, directed by her son Eduardo Ponte (1973). In the film, Lauren plays a Jewish Holocaust survivor who helps raise the children of deceased prostitutes with whom she once walked the streets. She then established a lasting friendship with Momo, a 12-year-old Senegalese orphan. The long-awaited film is the second adaptation of a Roman Gary novel, after the 1977 film named after the main character starring Simon Signore.

After the premiere in Rome in October, the film will be available on Netflix from November 13, 2020. In this context, Deadline noted that the US streaming platform will win a series of awards thanks to this work.
In an interview with the same website, Lauren noted that she did not hesitate to take the opportunity to play this role, confirming her admiration for the character who “reminds me of my mother.”
It should be noted that Sophia Loren’s last work was My House is Full of Mirrors (2010 – directed by Vittorio Sendoni). In 2009, she played Daniel Day-Lewis’s mother in Nine, directed by Rob Marshall, based on the 1963 Federico Fellini film 8½.
