The Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper asked if the opposition would comply with the invitation of the President of the Republic and what would be their level of representation and assistance. Asharq Al-Awsat learned that President Michel Aoun’s initiative to invite political leaders and parliamentarians to attend the national meeting launched extensive consultations, most of which were addressed to Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri for his opinion. .

Berri received communications from Presidents Najib Mikati, Saad Hariri, the head of the Progressive Socialist Party, Walid Jumblatt, and the leader of the “Marada” movement, former Minister Suleiman Franjieh. Al-Sharq Al-Awsat said Miqati has apologized for attending an earlier appointment, noting that MP Nicolas Nahas will represent the “Independent Center” bloc.

These contacts coincided with the initiative of opposition leaders, specifically Hariri and Jumblatt, and the leader of the “Lebanese Forces” party, Samir Geagea, to consult in preparation to determine their position regarding Aoun’s call. And although prominent parliamentary sources reported that Jumblatt will personally participate in the meeting, a decisive stance on “the socialist” has not been issued, and his sources said Jumblatt is studying the situation to make the decision. The newspaper reported that Hariri was consulting with the leaders of the “Future” movement and its parliamentary bloc.
