As of last night, Hezbollah had not resolved the controversy over the causes of the explosion in the city of Ain Qana (Nabatiyeh district) at 3pm yesterday. What the people of the region are sure of is the loud blast that shook the atmosphere of Iqlim al-Tuffah, the clouds of thick black smoke and the material damage to houses in Ein Qana, Kafarvila and Humayn al-Fawqa. After absorbing the impact, the people near the explosion site came out to see what had happened. A two-story residential building was completely razed, damage and partial destruction extended to the houses surrounding the residential neighborhood. Short video and audio recordings sent by various residents of the building revealed the extent of the damage, but no casualties were reported, amid confirmation from the Lebanese Red Cross that there were no casualties.
The party quickly imposed a security cordon around the place, in coordination with the Lebanese army and the defense and civil relief teams, and prevented the entry of anyone, and implicitly the media, which prevented the details of the incident were accurately monitored.
Initially, the faces of the crowd showed signs of anxiety, fearing victims or injuries. They formed a human chain to facilitate the crossing of the main roads and divert traffic into side alleys. The concern was removed by the arrival of Hezbollah officials, who reassured people about the absence of casualties, hinting at the accidental explosion and not linking it to any specific Israeli airstrike.
Although the cause of the explosion was not resolved, the Army Command issued a statement in which it was said that “an explosion occurred in a building in the town of Ein Qana, and immediately an army force arrived at the scene and started investigations into the causes of the explosion ”. The party did not issue a statement. However, conflicting information spoke of the explosion of a weapons depot belonging to the party, in contrast to other reports that remnants of ammunition from the Israeli attacks had exploded in the building used by the demining association.
After the explosion, the party formed a team of engineers to carry out a field inspection of the damaged houses, starting this morning, and make people available to contact telephone numbers.
