American comic book host Ellen DeGeneres responded for the first time to allegations of prevalent workplace harassment affecting her show, admitting that there had been slip-ups and confirming that “necessary changes” would be made.
Criticism of the popular talk show “Eileen” about staff management methods has been high since the broadcast was cut off in mid-March due to the epidemic.
In mid-April, Freight magazine reported that members of the show’s technical staff had complained that production curators had resumed filming at Ellen DeGeneres’s home without a majority of the members. In July, BuzzFeed released a report based on testimonials from former program staff members who revealed the “toxic” work environment. This report did not include any testimony that personally accused DeGeneres, although some considered that it could not be completely exempt from these criticisms.
These accusations tarnished the image of DeGeneres, a 62-year-old former comedian whose show on NBC focuses on the values of kindness and humanity, with the tagline “Be Kind.”
After months of speculation about the possibility of canceling the show, DeGeneres, who has not made a comment since the controversy broke out, responded to the accusations. In the first episode of the show’s eighteenth season, she confirmed that “the necessary changes” and “the opening of a new page” will be made.
Three producers named in the BuzzFeed report were fired in August.
The host, who won 30 Emmy Awards and relived the Oscars concerts in 2007 and 2014, said she “knew things that shouldn’t have happened.” I don’t think I could have cheated on you every day for 17 years. The truth is that I really am the person you see on television, “she added.
