And experts from the Regional Committee for Traditional Medicine for the treatment of “Covid-19”, made up of the World Health Organization, the African Center for Disease Control and Prevention and the Commission for Social Affairs of the African Union, raised the question of the use of traditional medicines in the fight against the emerging coronavirus (and Rona), after the president suggested Madagascar, Andrey Radzulina, tried a traditional mugwort drink with proven efficacy against malaria.

This traditional herbal medicine is widely used in Madagascar, as well as many other African countries, under the name “Covid-Organics” or “CVO”.

The World Health Organization has approved the trial protocol, charter and terms of reference for the formation of a committee to monitor the data and safety of clinical trials.

A statement from the World Health Organization said: “Phase 3 clinical trials are critically important in the full evaluation of the safety and efficacy of the new drug.”

The quoted statement Prosper Tomosim, Director of the Universal Health Coverage Group at the WHO African Office, said: “The emergence of Covid-19, like the Ebola outbreak in West Africa, has highlighted the need to strengthen health systems and accelerate research and development programs, including traditional medicine. If a traditional medicine product is found to be safe, effective, and of guaranteed quality, the World Health Organization will recommend it for large-scale local production.

And the World Health Organization had announced last May that it would consider “traditional methods” to treat the new coronavirus infection, according to a unified procedure that applies to the testing process for all drugs.

The statement noted that “the Data Security and Control Committee will ensure that the research data is periodically reviewed for the safety of the participants,” noting that the committee, based on the periodic evaluation of data from the separate stages of the study, decide whether to continue, amend or terminate.
