Argentina’s Mariana de Almeida entered history after becoming the first referee to participate in the history of the Copa Libertadores.

The Argentina Racing Club match and Nacional de Paraguay saw the emergence of the Argentine as an assistant referee to administer the match, after discovering that the refereeing body had been infected with the new Corona virus.

The Brazilian referee team was replaced for the match and replaced by two Chilean referees and two other Argentines, Almeida among them.

The same happened in the Argentine game Diencia Justicia against its Ecuadorian host, Delphine.

Argentina’s Diana Maloney was appointed as assistant referee for the match due to the infection of the assistant referee and the fourth with the Corona virus.

Mariana appeared in 12 games in the Argentine League as an assistant referee, including 5 last season.

Although women have long been involved in refereeing the Brazilian and Argentine leagues, they had not previously been selected to work in the Copa Libertadores.
