The Minister of Public Health in the interim government, Hamad Hassan, chaired a meeting at the Ministry of Public Health to develop a rapid response plan for prisons in Lebanon, after recording coronavirus infections among prisoners, in cooperation between the ministry and its partners in the field of health and humanitarian.

The plan included expectations and possibilities for it to be developed incrementally and quickly when the need requires more health and hospitalization.

Hassan said: “The meeting has only one title, which is to support the prisoners in a healthy, psychological and logistical way. The prisoner is a citizen who enjoys all his rights and must have medical and public health support, as well as legal support. , judicial and judicial authorities to reduce overcrowding and take measures to help reduce the risk of the spread of the epidemic among prisoners. country “.

He added: “The meeting agreed to cooperate to ensure necessary medical coverage and medical care for all inmates, as part of an emergency plan drawn up by the prison’s medical administration to ensure the isolation of mild and moderate cases. cases showing advanced symptoms will be evacuated in preparation for isolation in the many available hospital centers or their owners will be admitted to rooms and intensive care departments in hospitals. “

The Minister of Public Health stressed that “the rights of prisoners are equal to the rights of any free citizen.” He said: “The time factor is important to us, and progressive injury registration requires the interaction of all stakeholders and accelerating the steps without rushing.”
