Political sources that were keeping up with ongoing contacts to facilitate the formation of the new Lebanese government revealed that French President Emmanuel Macron had instructed the concerned authorities to draft it that he would like to extend the deadline he had set. They told Asharq Al-Awsat that President Macron informed those concerned about the extension of the deadline. For one or two days, which ends (tomorrow) Thursday, it paves the way to intensify contacts to create conditions that promote overcoming the stagnation that continues to delay the process of government formation.

The same sources confirmed that Macron has not stopped communicating with all Lebanese leaders to overcome the obstacles that still hinder the formation of the government. He noted that the French contacts did not end with the president in charge of forming the government, Ambassador Mustafa Adib, and said that the latter follows the pace of the contacts assumed by Macron and with him the French team assigned to follow the Lebanese file.

And while the Lebanese president Michel Aoun yesterday continued his consultations with the parliamentary blocs, Adeeb was, according to informed sources, being subjected to impeachment campaigns, which forced him to break his silence in front of a series of friends who quoted him saying: I remain in my position and I will not be a vehicle to bankrupt the Shiite community. Generous or other sects, and what concerns me after my assignment to form the new government, is the cooperation with all those who have no previous positions to save my country.

Adeeb added, according to his friends: “I will not get into a fight with anyone, because the country now needs to get involved in political disputes, and my hand is out for everyone to cooperate, and I will have the right position, in case the efforts to form a rescue government they hit a dead end ”.

On the other hand, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has warned President Macron that his efforts to resolve the crisis in Lebanon may continue to be unsuccessful if the issue of Hezbollah weapons is not immediately addressed. In an interview with a French radio station, Pompeo criticized France’s refusal to designate “Hezbollah” as a terrorist organization.

Yesterday, the French newspaper “Le Figaro” published an article by Secretary Pompeo in which he criticized France’s position to separate a political wing from another military wing of “Hezbollah”. “Unfortunately, France refuses to designate (Hezbollah) a terrorist organization, as other European countries have done, and maintains the illusion that there is a political wing for this party, even though everything is under the control (of the secretary Hezbollah general) Hassan Nasrallah, “Pompeo added.
