Under the title “Consultation”, the designated prime minister, Mustafa Adeeb, held a meeting with President Michel Aoun without proposing the formation of a government or discussing names, while efforts continue to be made in more than one line to overcome the basic knot that is It has based on the Shiite representation and the adherence of the “party”. God and the Amal Movement in the Ministry of Finance.
Yesterday (Monday) the President of the Republic launched consultations that included the representative blocs represented in Parliament and discussed with them “the solutions to the existing crisis”, as one of the participants confirmed to “Asharq Al-Awsat” that Aoun He did not present specific ideas, but presented the dangers of the status quo, expressing his intention to consult with them. Everyone is out of the crisis. Sources who participated in the meetings said that the main objective is not to confine the Shiite duo to consult with him without anyone else, and thus invite them from among the other parliamentary blocs.
After the meeting, Adeeb said that he met with President Aoun “for further consultations.” On the date of the formation of the government, he replied: “God willing, that’s fine.”
A statement from the Presidency of the Republic indicated that Adeeb informed Aoun about the developments and contacts he is making to form the next government.
With the start of the countdown to the French deadline that President Emmanuel Macron had given to the Lebanese parties to form a government, sources close to the Presidency told Al-Sharq al-Awsat that the deadline does not end on Tuesday, but on 16 or 17 of this month, with its assertion that it is not binding and the most important thing remains. The success of the efforts to overcome the contract, from the representation of the Shiite duo to the rotation of the portfolios as well as the minister taking charge of more than one portfolio, adding: “So, waiting for the efforts to end, Adeeb did not present his training in his meeting with Aoun and did not offer names or government formula, but there was a query about the role. The government and its program at this stage ”, pointing out at the same time that the President of the Republic is consulting with the heads of the blocs or their representatives on these conflictive points.
On the other hand, sources familiar with the efforts to form a government told Asharq Al-Awsat that “Adeeb still insists on rotating the bags and not assigning a specific ministry to a particular sect or political force.”
Aoun continued with his consultations to complete them today, and for this he received both Deputy Farid al-Khazen, representative of the “National Bloc”, the head of the “National Social Bloc”, Deputy Asaad Hardan, Deputy Faisal Karami, representative of the “Consultative Meeting”, like the head of the “Strong Lebanon” bloc, Deputy Gebran Bassil and Deputy Samir Al-Jisr, representative of the Future Movement.
Al-Sharq al-Awsat learned that Aoun did not mention the names of the ministers and that he was willing not to appear as an infringer of the powers of the designated prime minister, but he focused on two things. The first is the degree of acceptance of the assignment of the Ministry of Finance to the Shiite community, and the second is the degree of acceptance of the appointed president when electing the ministers of Without consulting the political forces. Al-Jisr responded that there was no constitutional text allowing the assignment of a ministry to a sect and that the matter needed a constitutional amendment. Al-Jisr affirmed the right of the president-designate to elect a homogeneous task force, and it is up to Parliament to grant or retain trust.
And that since the Taif Agreement until today, the Ministry of Finance has received seven ministers from the Shiite community.
After the information indicated that Adeeb was on his way yesterday to present his government formation, and then return after that and the two parties announced that the meeting was limited to consultations, the “Central News Agency” quoted political sources as saying that “Adeeb is eager to get the biggest hug from his long-awaited government and does not want it to be a challenging government or a showdown, especially since his rescue mission needs the greatest consensus and cooperation of all political forces. It seems, according to sources , that that consensus has been lost, in fact, in the last hours, a kind of “anger” and “rebellion” has replaced it. The position of the Shiite duo, which was clearly expressed by the speaker of parliament, Nabih Berri, in a statement in which he announced not to participate in the government, was not a question of facilitation or flexibility, but rather a warning that if this government was formed without “real representatives of the Shiites”, it could not be You are passing the test of “confidence” in Parliament, or your career will not be easy.
From here the sources indicate that Adeeb understood the message, “and since he does not want to break anyone, apparently he decided to wait, make more consultations with the political blocs and understand their dangers.” This path began last night, with a call he made with the head of the Free Patriotic Movement, deputy Gebran Bassil, and it seems that he will complete this round of contacts in the next few hours, and the presidency of Parliament will be a basic station within her, since she will seek to reach a compromise formula regarding the bag of money that the two hold. According to sources, Adeeb, in the additional period that he opened today, will be at risk of political forces, but within the “frameworks” that he defines, which is a government of specialists.
