In a statement, UNIFIL spokesperson Andrea Tenanti announced that “a ship belonging to the UNIFIL Maritime Force this morning (Monday) located a ship outside Lebanese territorial waters carrying 37 people on board,” referring to upon the death of one of them.

It noted that “the UNIFIL mission chief and his commander-in-chief, Major General Stefano Del Col, considered this incident to be very tragic, and the UNIFIL maritime peacekeepers were doing everything they could to save the lives of these people. “
