Four Lebanese soldiers were killed in a raid Monday night in search of a wanted man in northern Lebanon, which also ended in his death, according to the Lebanese army.

The raid targeted a group led by the wanted Khaled al-Talawi, who was involved in a crime that took place on August 21 in the town of Kaftoun in northern Lebanon, in which three of the residents of the town, two members of the municipal police and the mayor’s son for suspecting that there was a car parked on the side of the road.

Military forces have been chasing the shooters for weeks.

In a second statement, the Army Command stated that “the head of the terrorist cell that carried out the Kuftun operation, the wanted Khaled al-Talawi, threw a hand grenade and fired at the patrolmen” during a raid on the house in Beddawi, which caused the death of the soldiers.

As a result, “the army units pursued the terrorist cell that fled the area … and proceeded to cordon off” the place where it was hiding. According to the army, during the operation, al-Talawi “opened fire on one of the soldiers who responded in the same way, killing him instantly.”

The army units are still chasing the rest of the group.

In the wake of the Kaftoun crime, the Internal Security Forces arrested a suspect after conducting a raid on the Beddawi Palestinian refugee camp near the city of Tripoli, in coordination with the Palestinian factions there.
